Ascension

Opening to the sounds of waves lapping on the shore, a single bench half-lit on stage and a lonely figure sitting on the ground, director Max Lindsay has pitched the atmosphere of isolation well in this two-hander. Based on the real life story of an 18th century man, Leendert Hasenbosch, who was exiled to Ascension island as punishment for being gay, writer and performer Dan Hazelwood has developed this play from Hasenbosch’s own diary, found on the island after his death.
